Hm, what’s this? A new sci-fi movie?
Ex Machina director Alex Garland has been eyeing Natalie Portman to star in his newest film, Annihilation. Apparently, there has been word of this going around, and they’re in early talks about the entire situation. Scott Rudin is set to produce the film.
If you’re not entirely sure what Annihilation is, it is a novel by Jeff VanderMeer about four women who explore an uncharted area that no one dares go – Area X. These four protagonists include a biologist (who narrates the story), a psychologist, a surveyor, and an anthropologist. I myself have yet to read this, but after doing some research about it, I need to get my hands on this book.
Portman is rumored to play the biologist, and filming is said to start in 2016. According to other sources, a lot of people are up in the air as far as the other three women go, but nothing is going to be set in stone until the ex-Star Wars star is officially cast.
On another note, you can buy the book here and read it before the film is released! I know that’s what I’m going to do.
