Alex Garland has impressed many sci-fi fans with his directorial debut, Ex Machina, and now he’s back with his another sci-fi film, Annihilation, starring Natalie Portman. The teaser trailer is out, and we get to see the strong lineup that would make Star Wars and Marvel fans happy. For example, we have Padme trying to save Poe Dameron. Or maybe it’s Jane Foster trying to resurrect Apocalypse while Wong is interrogating her. In addition, there’s an appearance from Valkyrie.
“It’s based on a novel by a guy named Jeff VanderMeer,” Garland tells Nerd Reactor. “What I’d really like to do is make that film a hit. It’s a step up, it’s twice the budget of Ex Machina. Ex Machina was $15 million dollars, this would be $30 if not more, like maybe $32 or $33 or something like that. But that’s what I’m hoping for. Basically, it’s about a group of women who enter into an area in North America which has been sealed off by the government and discover what’s in there which is a very kind of strange, landscape where everything has gone kind of surreal.”
The film is directed by Alex Garland (Ex Machina, 28 Days Later) and stars Natalie Portman, Jennifer Jason Leigh, Gina Rodriguez, Tessa Thompson, Tuva Novotny, Benedict Wong and Oscar Isaac.
Annihilation hits theaters on February 23, 2018.
Here’s hoping there’s a dance sequence involving Oscar Isaac
