Alex Garland has created an amazing sci-fi film with Ex Machina, and I’m ready for anything he has cooked up for moviegoers. His next movie is Annihilation, an adaptation of Jeff VanderMeer’s Southern Reach Trilogy, and a new trailer has dropped from Paramount Pictures. The film mixes in elements of sci-fi and horror and features a strong female cast.

Here we get to see Portman’s character trying to find out what has happened to her husband. To do this, she and a team must venture into a mysterious area filled with beauty and something dangerous.
The book follows a team of four women (a biologist, an anthropologist, a psychologist, and a surveyor) on a journey to exploring Area X. They are the 12th expedition, with the previous expeditions resulting in teams disappearing, committing suicide, and receiving cancer and mental trauma.
The film stars Natalie Portman (Thor), Jennifer Jason Leigh (The Hateful Eight), Gina Rodriguez (Jane the Virgin), Tessa Thompson (Westworld, Thor Ragnarok), Tuva Novotny, Benedict Wong (Doctor Strange) and Oscar Isaac (Star Wars: The Last Jedi, Ex Machina). It was written and directed by Alex Garland (Ex Machina, 28 Days Later).
Annihilation hits theaters on February 23, 2018.
